Senator Crawford Begins Legislative Year

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Sandy Crawford, R-Buffalo, begins her second full year in the Missouri Senate. New and returning senators were sworn into office as the First Regular Session of the 100th General Assembly began at noon yesterday (1/9).

“This is an exciting time to be in the Missouri Legislature, especially with so many new faces in the Senate,” Sen. Crawford said. “I am looking forward to getting to know the new senators and working with all of my colleagues during the 2019 legislative session.”

Senator Crawford has already prefiled several pieces of legislation for 2019, including:

  • Senate Bill 53, which seeks to modify the duties of county officials;
  • Senate Bill 54, legislation that would specify default interest rates for voluntary payments made by insurance companies; and
  • Senate Bill 55, a measure that would authorize the Missouri Public Service Commission, to set a separate, lower fixed charge or customer charge for low-income customers of water corporations and sewer corporations.

Missouri senators are awaiting new committee assignments for the new session. Once these are in place, committee hearings will begin.

“I have spent the last several months in the district, listening to my constituents,” Sen. Crawford said. “We have a fairly aggressive agenda for the coming four months, which includes passing a balanced budget. I am ready to represent my district and to make Missouri a better and more competitive state for years to come.”
