State Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin Stands Up for Life

JEFFERSON CITY — Last week, residents of Shelby County joined hundreds of others and marched through downtown Jefferson City, showing their support for the rights of the unborn. The 2019 Midwest March for Life was a visible demonstration that people are outraged at the destruction of tiny babies still in the womb.

When these passionate citizens took to the streets, their message was clear: Unborn children have a right to live. There are only three things that differentiate unborn children from anybody else: 1) level of development 2) level of dependency, and 3) location. Not a single one of those differences should determine whether or not a person has a right to live, let alone whether or not they are human.

The state of New York recently passed the Reproductive Health Act (RHA). This New York law allows an abortion to take place up to the day of birth. This must be called what it is; infanticide. I believe that passing this legislation in New York is, to say the least, barbaric and monstrous.

It is important that we do not follow the examples of states like New York who openly support late-term abortions. We must stand up and support policy measures that protect life and defend the unborn.

As a mother of four and a grandmother of six, I want to say thank you to those who came out to take a stand for unborn babies. As the senator representing Missourians across the Northeastern part of the state, I want to reaffirm that I proudly stand with those who fight for the right to life. I also want to ask that each of us continue to support centers which serve those with unplanned pregnancy. It is not enough to say “No.” We must stand beside these mothers and assist them in dealing with the ramifications of bringing a new life into the world. We must show our love and compassion for their feelings and fears; We CAN be servants of God for these moms.
