State Sen. Bill White Sponsors Bill that Excuses Seniors from Jury Duty

JEFFERSON CITY – This week, the Missouri Senate passed Senate Bill 297  and sent it to the Missouri House of Representatives for further consideration. Senate Bill 297 allows a person who is 75 years of age or older to be excused from jury service. Under the legislation, qualified individuals must submit a timely application to the court in order to be excused from jury duty.

“This piece of legislation provides a pathway for seniors to be excused from jury duty in the event their health or other life circumstances prevent them from attending court,” said Sen. Bill White, R-Joplin. “I am optimistic this legislation will pass out the Legislature and will be signed into state law.”
