Transportation Budget Includes $1.1 Million for Warrensburg Airport

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Denny Hoskins, R-Warrensburg, is pleased to announce the Fiscal Year 2021 state budget approved by the Missouri General Assembly includes $1.1 million for the University of Central Missouri’s Max B Swisher Skyhaven Airport. The appropriation, requested by Sen. Hoskins, is in addition to private donations totaling nearly $2 million, which will fund construction of a new flight education center and airport terminal.

A general aviation facility serving residents of Johnson County, Skyhaven Airport is home to UCM’s nationally recognized aviation training program and is the only airport owned by a public university in Missouri. A 20-year renovation program for the Warrensburg airport began in 2012 and previously included improved runways, parking facilities and new hangars. The final $3 million phase of the project will include a new airport terminal, improved parking and an expanded training facility for the university’s aviation careers program.

“This innovative facility has a proud history of preparing students for careers in aviation and serves as a catalyst for economic development in the central Missouri region.” Sen. Hoskins said. “The funding approved by the Missouri Legislature will allow the completion of Skyhaven’s transformation and enhance the learning experience of UCM students for generations to come.”
