The Missouri Senate Minute for Jan. 27: Infrastructure Improvements

The question of how to pay for needed infrastructure improvements continues to be asked. For Missouri senators, it comes down to what options they might have. Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz of Sullivan says, in his mind, there is only one solution to pay for infrastructure improvements…

“The best that we can do is put forward a gas tax to address the transportation needs,” Sen. Schatz said.

In addition to this concern, there are other pressing topics for lawmakers, including public safety matters. Missouri Senate Minority Floor Leader Gina Walsh of Bellefontaine Neighbors says the goal is to find a path forward on legislation…

“If we work hard that reasonable people can come up to reasonable solutions,” Sen. Walsh said.

With several measures now having been voted “do pass” in committee, the first legislative discussions could start on the floor of the Missouri Senate this week. This is the fourth week of the 2020 legislative session.
