Sen. Crawford’s Capitol Report, for the Week of Feb. 17

This past week marked an exciting and busy week for my office. Over the course of the past week, one of my priority bills received approval from the Missouri Senate. My proposal, Senate Bill 653, aims to reform state law to help our state’s foster parents. This measure would modify the “Foster Parents’ Bill of Rights” to require the Children’s Division to provide written notification of these rights at the time a child is placed with a prospective foster parent, even if the parent has yet to be licensed as a foster parent. Also, the division would provide full access to the child’s medical, psychological and psychiatric records, including records prior to the child coming into care, at the time the child is placed with a foster parent. My colleagues in the Missouri Senate have sent SB 653 to the Missouri House of Representatives for its consideration.

Also, Senate Bill 652 is moving along. This legislation modifies the ballot language required for the approval of a local use tax. Senate Bill 652 was heard in the Missouri Senate Local Government and Elections Committee this week.

The same panel also heard Senate Bill 803, which seeks to modify provisions relating to the salaries of public administrators. This legislation aims to bring consistency and a level playing field to the pay structure used for our state’s public administrators.

I hope to see these two measures continue onto the floor of the Missouri Senate for discussion and then make their way to the Missouri House in the next few weeks.
