Sen. Crawford’s Capitol Report, for the Week of Jan. 28

It has been another busy week in the Missouri Senate, with the bulk of committees having now had at least one hearing. This includes the Missouri Senate Local Government and Elections Committee, which I have the pleasure of chairing this year. On Wednesday we heard Senate Bill 5, which deals with changes to our state’s initiative petition process.

In addition, I presented two bills in committee this past week. Senate Bill 54 would specify default interest rates for voluntary payments made by insurance companies. On Wednesday, the Missouri Senate Insurance and Banking Committee discussed the merits of my proposal. Also on Wednesday, the Missouri Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment Committee heard Senate Bill 55, legislation that seeks to authorize the Missouri Public Service Commission, during a general rate proceeding for a water corporation or sewer corporation, to set a separate, lower fixed charge or customer charge for low-income customers.

I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at (573) 751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
