Sen. Crawford’s Capitol Report, for the Week of Feb. 11

It may be hard to believe, but we are now one-third of the way through the 2019 legislative session. It has certainly been busy, but my colleagues and I are hard at work making our state a better place for all Missourians.

We started the week with two of my measures receiving committee hearings. Senate Bill 264 was heard in the Missouri Senate Professional Registration Committee. This proposal would transfer the Missouri Arts Council from the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) to the lieutenant governor’s office. This is a simple, straightforward idea that follows along with the governor’s plan to more narrowly focus DED.

Also Monday, the Missouri Senate Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources Committee heard Senate Bill 115, legislation that would modify provisions relating to the confiscation of animals.

On Wednesday, the Missouri Senate Seniors, Families and Children Committee heard Senate Bill 230, which would modify provisions relating to venue in guardianship and conservatorship proceedings. This measure would change current law to require proper venue in cases of appointment of a guardian or conservator of a minor, incapacitated or disabled person. We would prefer to see those needing care stay in their home county, or in the county where their caretaker lives.

These committees are still weighing the merits of each of these proposals. I hope to see these bills move to the full Missouri Senate for consideration very soon.

As we move into the tax season, I also want to take a moment to remind everyone of some resources available from the Missouri Department of Revenue:

  • A dedicated phone line for customers who have questions about their 2018 return. Customers can dial (573) 522-0967 for assistance;
  • Internet installment agreements can be accessed at dor.mo.gov/cacs/. The department encourages customers to utilize the online service, which is quick, secure and offers the same options as are available by phone;
  • As they do every year, Taxation Division call center agents will work with customers needing additional assistance on a case by case basis. Customers can dial
    (573) 522-0967 for assistance; and
  • Taxpayers can once again sign up to receive automatic text and email alerts each time the status of their state tax return is updated. Enroll in alerts at dor.mo.gov/returnstatus/.

I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at (573) 751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
