Jefferson City, Mo. – Employees of the Missouri Senate have a long history of helping the Jefferson City community. Whether it is a staff member volunteering their time and efforts, making a financial donation or serving on a volunteer board, many employees spend their personal time working to better the lives of others across our state.

This Christmas season, Senate employees came together to help two Jefferson City-area organizations through fundraising events during an annual Christmas luncheon.

The Camp Guardian Foundation provides individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities – along with Missouri National Guard citizen-soldiers and airman; Missouri National Guard veterans, their family members and friends; and others – a unique opportunity to participate each year in an exceptional, week-long summer camp experience known as Camp Guardian. This organization is able to provide life changing experiences through private donations.

The second charity chosen was the Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association. This non-profit agency educates, supports and advocates for foster and adoptive children, and their families in central Missouri. The agency offers services to help develop healthy and self-sufficient individuals and families. Currently, the organization is assisting more than 640 foster families, over 1400 foster children and more than 400 adopted children in the Central Missouri area.

Along with employee donations, 26 Jefferson City and Columbia-area businesses donated to the silent auction.

During the Senate employees annual Christmas gathering, a total of $2,523 was raised for the two groups. The funds were raised through a 50/50 drawing; and live and silent auctions. Donations for the auctions included baked goods, gift certificates and gift baskets, which were donated by 26 area business and Senate employees.
