JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Senate Minority Floor Leader Gina Walsh, D-Bellefontaine Neighbors, encourages young women across the state to take advantage of a scholarship opportunity created by the Women Legislators of Missouri Caucus.

The scholarship is designed to help young women who are set to graduate from high school. Each year, the group selects one student from each of Missouri’s congressional districts to receive a $500 college scholarship.

“For many young people, attending college is a lifelong dream,” said Sen. Walsh. “This scholarship provides an opportunity for young women who are interested in earning a college degree to be able to take that next step and work toward achieving their career goals.”

The Women Legislators of Missouri Caucus created the senior scholarship program to provide financial assistance to students on the basis of leadership, academics and community service. Candidates must fill out an application and submit a 500-word essay answering the question, “If you were a state legislator, what would you hope to accomplish and why?”

A link to download the scholarship application is located at https://myscholarshipcentral.org.

The submission deadline is March 15, 2019.

The group will select the recipients and then hold a reception in their honor at the State Capitol on Monday, April 15, 2019.
