Senator Crawford’s Capitol Report, for the Week of April 9

Crawford - Column Banner - 091317

Several of my bills made progress this week. I was happy to see the Missouri House General Laws Committee vote to send Senate Bill 951 to the House floor for discussion. My proposal relates to hospital premises and conditions of participation. In addition, Senate Bill 623, which seeks to change the rules regarding the proceeds that result from tax sale foreclosures, is currently on the House calendar. Senate Bill 806, my guardianship measure, has also been voted out of committee and is ready for floor debate in the Missouri House of Representatives.

Also this week, the Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee discussed the House’s version of the budget bills for Fiscal Year 2019. Next, the Senate as a whole will have a chance to weigh in on these measures, and consider any changes to the state’s spending plan for 2019. By law, the budget must be sent to the governor by May 11. Fiscal Year 2019 will start on July 1, 2018.

This week, many areas in the 28th District received an economic boost. Thanks to federal tax cuts, dozens of new “opportunity zones” have opened in Missouri, which include Bolivar, Lebanon, Warsaw, Dallas and Laclede counties. These zones are intended to encourage new investment in underserved parts of our state. This means the potential for more jobs and opportunities in rural Missouri, and I am thrilled to see this development in the district.

Due to the number of visitors we receive from the district each week, I encourage you to call my office ahead of your visit to schedule an appointment.
