Senator Jamilah Nasheed’s Law Enforcement Legislation Receives Final Approval

JEFFERSON CITY —State Sen. Nasheed, D-St. Louis, announces the Missouri General Assembly has given final approval to her legislation providing additional resources and training for sheriffs and deputies in the City of St. Louis.

Senate Bill 652  specifies the Office of the Sheriff of the City of St. Louis is a law enforcement agency, and the sheriff and their sworn deputies are law enforcement officers who are eligible for peace officer standards and training (POST) certification. This distinction will provide additional training to the sheriff and their deputies, and it will also allow them to access grants and other resources for their department.

“Today, we have created a level playing field for the officers of this state and ensured the hardworking police officers in the City of St. Louis have the resources they need to serve our community,” said Sen. Nasheed. “Being POST-certified provides vital funds and training that keeps them on the same level as any other officer in the state. The passage of this legislation is a win for law enforcement in the City of St. Louis and the people they protect and serve. I would like to thank the members of the Missouri House of Representatives and Missouri Senate for working to pass an important piece of legislation for the City of St. Louis.”
