Missouri Division of Tourism Awards Funds to Promote Local Projects

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Division of Tourism announced the allocation of $2.8 million dollars in 2019 to support marketing efforts of local tourist destinations throughout the state. These funds are utilized to showcase the various attractions throughout the state and take Missouri to the next level within the tourism industry. Two projects have been funded in the 3rd Senatorial District. The Iron County Economic Partnership received an award to aid in website development and the City of Ste. Genevieve Tourism Department was also awarded funds to improve media placement. These specific organizations are required to match the state funding with local funds in order to support specific performance-driven projects that benefit their communities

“Tourism is a crucial component of our local economy,” Sen. Gary Romine stated. “I was pleased to hear both of these important projects have received funding through the Missouri Division of Tourism to promote our communities online and in the media.”

Tourism continues to rank as one of the most important revenue- and job-producing industries in Missouri. In the 2017 fiscal year, a record 42 million tourists visited the Show-Me State. Additionally, the tourism industry employs over 313,000 Missourians and has a $16.9 billion economic impact on the state.
