Senator Gina Walsh Appointed Chairwoman of Senate Progress and Development Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Senate Minority Floor Leader Gina Walsh, D-Bellefontaine Neighbors, has been appointed chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Progress and Development. Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard, R-Joplin, announced committee appointments for the 2017 legislative session on Thursday, Jan. 5.

“Quite simply, progress is the result of working to improve our society by promoting the ideals of liberty, democracy and quality of life for everyone,” said Sen. Walsh. “It is a privilege and honor to lead a committee whose primary goal is to contribute to the advancement of human welfare in Missouri.”

The Committee on Progress and Development is responsible for considering and reporting upon all legislation and matters referred to it by the president pro tem concerning the changing or maintenance of issues relating to human welfare.

“I believe all Missourians share a common and genuine pride in our state,” added Walsh. “I also believe we have a grave responsibility to our young people to make the Show-Me State a place in which they too can be justly proud far into the future, long after our service has ended.

“I recognize that the way of progress is neither swift nor easy; however, by working together and embracing new ideas, we will be able to rebuild our citizens’ confidence in their state government and move Missouri forward.”

Senator Walsh was also appointed a member of the Administration; Gubernatorial Appointments; Insurance and Banking; Professional Registration; and Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics committees. In addition, she will continue serving on the Government Accountability; Legislative Research and Public Employees Retirement joint committees, as well as the Missouri Human Trafficking Task Force; Missouri Multiple Sclerosis Task Force; Missouri Works Job Training Joint Legislative Oversight Committee; Senate Select Committee on Capital Improvements as vice chairwoman; Senate Interim Committee on MO HealthNet Pharmacy Benefits; Senate Interim Committee on Utility Regulation and Infrastructure Investment; Missouri Lead Industry Employment, Economic Development and Environmental Remediation Task Force; Missouri Tourism Commission; and the Missouri Humanities Council Trust Fund Board.
