JEFFERSON CITY — State Senator David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, has praised the governor for signing Senate Bill 814. The measure allows active-duty members of the armed forces living in Missouri to deduct all income earned as compensation through their service in the military from their taxable state income totals.

“Missouri needs to be helping our service men and women in as many ways as possible, and this bill is a great advancement for providing financial assistance to our military members,” Sen. Pearce said.

Active-duty military members who file a return with a spouse will also be able to deduct their military pay from their combined adjusted gross income, which will help Missouri service members with families.

“The Legislature has been hard at work enacting multiple measures that will help Missouri become a more friendly and supportive state for our bravest citizens,” Sen. Pearce said. “This bill, which benefits service members and saves the state money, will also entice residents of other states stationed in or near Missouri to want to call our state home.”

The bill, which was signed by the governor on June 28, will apply to all tax years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2016.
