JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, will be joined by the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCADSV) to host the first annual Sex Trafficking Awareness Month Rally on Jan. 26, at the Missouri State Capitol.

“Sex trafficking is quickly becoming an epidemic in our nation and state. To help raise awareness of this horrible crime, I sponsored Senate Concurrent Resolution 1 in 2015 to raise awareness about the serious problem of sex trafficking in Missouri and to examine ways to address this growing concern,” Sen. Nasheed said. “I sincerely hope this event, and others like it across the state will help promote awareness and advocacy services for those affected.”

The first annual Sex Trafficking Awareness Month rally will be held at the Missouri State Capitol. The event kicks off at 9:00 a.m., with more than 30 Missouri organizations displaying information about sex trafficking in Missouri and the causes, dangers and consequences of this problem. Beginning at 1:00 p.m., a commemorative ceremony will be held in the first floor rotunda of the Capitol. Senator Nasheed, along with other legislators and advocates, will speak about human sex trafficking and the importance of raising awareness by designating January as Sex Trafficking Awareness Month in Missouri.
