Senator David Pearce to Host Media Availability on SB 997

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – On Monday, Aug. 8, State Senator David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, will host a media availability at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville on the successful passage and signing of Senate Bill 997, a comprehensive higher education bill. Senator Pearce will be joined by officials from the Department of Higher Education (DHE) and the State Coordinating Board for Higher Education (CBHE), as well as administrators and representatives from Northwest Missouri State University, Missouri Western State University and North Central Missouri College.

The event will be a roundtable discussion concerning the positive impact SB 997’s passage will have on Missouri’s universities, community colleges, students, faculty and staff. The event is open to the public, and all members of the media are invited to attend.

Senate Bill 997 was largely constructed after the State Coordinating Board for Higher Education’s “Blueprint for Higher Education Report.” The bill will authorize multiple scholarship programs, allow students to enroll in dual credit courses, enable student loan forgiveness for certain students and offer financial aid for veterans and their families, among other provisions.
