Current Bill Summary

SB 814 - This act allows the seatbelt law to be primarily enforced. Current law prohibits police from pulling over a car solely due to the driver or passenger's lack of seat belts. This is called secondary enforcement.

The act would allow police to pull over a non-belted driver as the primary reason. The punishment remains an infraction with a fine not to exceed $10.
