Senator Sandy Crawford's Capitol Report for the Week of April 27, 2026
Thursday, April 30, 2026

    April 30, 2026

It is hard to believe there are only two weeks left in the 2026 regular legislative session. This gives us one week to send the fiscal year 2027 state operating budget to the governor. In the meantime, more of my legislative priorities continue to move forward.

Senate Bill 834 is now headed to the governor’s desk. The Missouri General Assembly passed this bill on April 29. If this proposal becomes law, it would create new provisions relating to mortgage modifications and create the Missouri Residential Sale Leaseback Protection Act. Both provisions contain consumer protections that help homeowners.

Senate Bills 1410 & 853 has been sent to the Missouri House of Representatives for consideration. This legislation seeks to modify provisions relating to property taxes by adding transparency in ballot language, requiring quicker tax rollbacks, allowing taxes to be paid in installments and it allows taxpayers to add a trusted contact to their property tax bill. In addition, it requires taxpayers to be notified by June 1 if there is an increase in their property valuation. It also requires schools to disclose if they move funds from operating to debt service.

I have spent countless hours trying to craft legislation that provides reasonable reforms for the taxpayer without hurting schools and counties.

I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at 573-751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
