Senator Sandy Crawford's Capitol Report for the Week of March 9, 2026
Thursday, March 12, 2026

    March 12, 2026

This week was extremely busy. Three of my bills were heard in committee. Senate Bill 1543 was heard in the Missouri Senate Insurance and Banking Committee. This measure strengthens consumer protections, reduces fraud and makes meaningful investments to improve the resilience of Missouri homes by updating key provisions of homeowner’s insurance.

Senate Bill 1575 makes a technical correction to the capital gains income tax exemption bill we passed last year.

Senate Bill 1399 will establish the Unemployment Administration Adjustment Fund. This bill will provide the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations with adequate funding for operational costs. This small adjustment will correct an issue without raising taxes to employers.

Senate Bill 1410 was voted out of committee and put on the Senate calendar. This bill will address property taxes. My goal is to help taxpayers without harming our counties and political subdivisions. Property tax reform is our top priority this session.

Senate Bill 1019 was voted out of the Senate and sent to the House of Representatives for its consideration. This bill will let hospitals invest up to half of their extra funds that are not required for operations of the hospital or other obligations. The current limit is 25%. This will allow hospitals to earn a better return and will be helpful to our rural hospitals.

Next week is our annual mid-session recess. This gives us a chance to recharge and prepare for the second half of session, which will include passing a balanced budget for the state’s next fiscal year.
