Baby Steps

Sen. Brown stands with Lacey Brumley in the Gubernatorial Appointments Committee hearing on Jan. 24.

I hope everyone was able to stay warm and safe during the recent cold spell. Work in the Missouri Senate was delayed this week due to the ice on Monday and some toasty temperaments in the chamber. There were a few small steps forward.

I was very proud to have presented and endorsed a citizen of the 16th Senatorial District to the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Lacey Brumley of Rolla was appointed by the governor to serve on the Missouri Board of Occupational Therapy. Lacey is a dedicated Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant and knows a tremendous amount about that area of health care. I know she will serve the people of Missouri well and be a great representative of the area in her role.

On the whole, progress on legislation was stalled this week as several committee hearings were postponed due to weather and significant amounts of time was taken up by filibusters and lengthy inquiries on the floor. None of which, unfortunately, had anything to do with proposed legislation and instead was focused on some members being unhappy with the process. Luckily, by Thursday afternoon we were able to get the remainder of bills second-read and referred to committees. I am hopeful we will begin seeing more headway in the coming weeks as committees continue to hold hearings and bills are able to be discussed by the entire Senate. It is time to end needless bickering and get back to the work of the people.

It’s my honor to serve as your senator for the 16th District. If you have questions or need any assistance, please call my office at 573-751-5713 or log onto my webpage at senate.mo.gov/brown for more information.
