HB 0847 Allows municipalities and counties to choose between overlapping service by ambulance districts
Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

SCS/HB 847 - This act adds overlapping ambulance districts to the right of voters in third classification counties to choose between overlapping fire and ambulance districts. Current law allows voters in third classification counties to choose whether or not to continue taxation by either the fire district or ambulance district when the two service areas overlap.

This act widens to scope of existing law to also allow a choice when two ambulance districts overlap. Current ballot language only allows a choice, yes or no, to continue one district. The ballot language is changed so that both districts are listed, and the one receiving the most votes will remain as the service provider.

The act also expands the definition of "ambulance" in Section 190.100 to now include vehicles that transport persons "in the supine position".

This act is similar to SB 436.
