Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

HS/HB 700 - This act allows electrical corporations to recover in rates the costs of purchased electrical capacity and energy and related costs incurred in the provision of electricity, according to rate schedules approved by the Public Service Commission. Once established, the Commission shall review the rate schedules separately from the company's other rate schedules and other factors that may affect overall rates or other costs.

An electrical corporation may file proposed rate schedules reflecting changes in capacity and energy costs with the Commission up to 12 times per calendar year. Upon a showing of the accuracy of the costs, the rate schedule shall take effect on 30 days' notice. The rate schedule shall be in effect on an interim basis, subject to refund, pending investigation by the Commission. If a reason is found to challenge the charges, the Commission will hold evidentiary hearings and make a determination; otherwise, the charges shall become final.

This act has an emergency clause.
