HB 0533 Taxpayers lose certain tax benefits if they hire illegal aliens
Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

SCS/HB 533 - This act provides that employers who employ illegal aliens shall not be eligible for tax credits, tax abatements or loans from the state. The agency must obtain a signed affirmation that such applicant does not employ illegal aliens. Employers who negligently employ illegal aliens are ineligible from obtaining such state benefits for 5 years, however, the director of the administering agency may, in his discretion, elect not to apply this administrative action on a first-time occurrence. Additionally, the employer may appeal the agency's decision with the Administrative Hearing Commission. An employer who takes a state benefit in violation of this act shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor (up to 1 year imprisonment or $5,000 fine or both), and the action can be brought by the Attorney General in Cole County Circuit Court.
