HB 0500 Revises restrictions on use of the state highway system by commercial motor vehicles
Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

HB 500 - This act revises the definition of "Automobile Transporter" to include camper units. Under this act, the weight restrictions per axle on commercial vehicles or combination of vehicles used statewide on all roads and bridges will be the axle category currently used on primary or interstate highways. Currently, there is a separate weight category for vehicles operating on primary or interstate highways, supplementary highways, and on bridges. The act permits the Highways and Transportation Commission to restrict or establish maximum weight and speed limits on certain bridges whenever the Commission finds that a bridge is in such condition that use of excessive weight may endanger the bridge or it users. Signs must be posted to provide user notice of the weight and speed limits. The act allows the issuance of a special permit for the movement of lumber products and earth moving equipment up to 16 feet in width. Currently, the restriction is 14 feet in width.
