Current Bill Summary

SB 181 - This act deals with insurance coverage for early cancer detection. Section 376.1195 requires certain individual and group health insurance policies to provide coverage to members for the following services by December 31, 1999:

1. A pelvic examination and pap smear for nonsym women; 2. A prostate examination and laboratory tests f for nonsymptomatic men; and 3. A colorectal cancer examination and laborator for nonsymptomatic persons.

All services must be performed in accordance with the American Cancer Society guidelines. This section does not apply to accident-only, hospital indemnity, Medicare supplement, long- term care, or other limited benefit health insurance policies. This provision is substantially similar to HB 191.
