HB 1905 (Truly Agreed) Changes composition of museum district boards
Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

HB 1905 - In 1997 the General Assembly passed and the Governor approved SB 21 which contained the Missouri Museum District Act in Sections 184.350 through 184.880. These sections would permit the establishment of museums including those pertaining to items of natural history and items connected with wildlife and conservation.

This act will forbid operation of any structures by a museum district board pursuant to Section 184.350 to 184.880 to be named for a commercial venture.

A museum district created under the provision of Sections 184.350 to 184.880 shall be governed by an eight member board. The Governor shall appoint three members, with the advice and consent of the Senate. These members will serve three year terms and not more than two board members can be from the same political party. The remaining five members shall be elected as provided in Section 184.830. When there is a vacancy on the Board of Directors, the Governor shall appoint someone to complete the unexpired term of the Board member.

The act deletes the provision from current law which requires appropriations to a district to be limited, on an annual basis, by the sales tax revenues generated from businesses within the museum district.

This bill will only affect Springfield.
