HB 1880 Civil immunity given with regard to airbag on-off switches
Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

SCS/HB 1880 - People who install an air-bag on-off switch in a motor vehicle, or who own or drive the vehicle, are given immunity from civil damages which may result because of the use of the switch. The act applies to self-installation with written federal approval, owners of vehicles with factory-installed switches, and authorized dealers or repair shops which install or sell the switches. All portions of the act are dependant upon whether the positioning of the switch resulted from a failure to exercise the highest degree of care.

By implication, several people will not be protected by this act: manufacturers or unauthorized persons who install the switches; and owners of vehicles with switches installed by anyone other than the manufacturer or owner.

The act also includes a provision increasing the number of days to register a car from 20 to 30.
