Current Bill Summary

SCS/SBs 311 & 200 - This act changes the manner in which schools are required to deal with third degree assaults.

If a child commits an act which would be a third degree assault if committed by an adult, including acts such as fighting and spitting, the principal has discretion to decide whether such act should be reported to the superintendent or to law enforcement. Under current law, a principal would have to report such conduct to both the superintendent and law enforcement.

A similar provision is also in SS/HB 641 (TAT).
