Current Bill Summary

SB 909 - Currently, cities with a population of at least 2,500 but not more than 40,000 which have a city fire department and which annex property included in a fire protection district, the city must assume fire protection responsibilities and reimburse the fire protection district for the loss to the district's tax base.

This act removes the 40,000 population cap, thereby causing all such cities with a population of at least 2,500 to comply with these provisions (section 321.322).

The provisions of this section shall not apply to any agreement in existence as of August 28, 1996, between any city and a fire protection district.
