Current Bill Summary

SB 577 - This act changes the definition of child abuse. Current law defines abuse as any physical injury, sexual abuse, or emotional abuse inflicted on a child other than by accidental means and not including spanking when administered in a reasonable manner. This act would change the definition of abuse to a conviction of a specified crime or an attempt to commit a specified crime. This definition determines which individuals are placed on the Central Registry of child abusers with the Division of Family Services.

This act also allows an individual other than a custodian to be placed on the Central Registry if that person commits or attempts to commit one of the specified crimes listed in Section 210.110, RSMo.
