The Missouri Legislature is back in session!
Along with more than 100 other Missouri legislators, I signed a letter calling for the termination of Melissa Click, the University of Missouri faculty member captured on video late last year blocking a student from exercising their First Amendment rights. I expect more out of the faculty and staff at the University of Missouri-Columbia; the University needs educators who display civility and patience, even during emotional moments. On Tuesday, the president issued an executive order that impedes upon the rights that Missourians have to keep and bear arms – rights that the people of Missouri voted to strengthen in 2014. Wednesday, the first day of session, I addressed the floor of the Senate to stand up against federal overreach on our Second Amendment rights. I will diligently work during this session to protect the Second Amendment Rights of all Missouri citizens. Video of the floor speech can be found here.
I look forward to working hard for the citizens of Missouri and the 19th Senate District this year. I have already filed three pieces of legislation: SB 575 repeals the earnings tax in St. Louis and Kansas City on Dec. 31, 2017; SB 775 adds a statutory aggravating circumstance for murder in the first degree for acts of terrorism; and SB 785 establishes the Civil Litigation Funding Act.
