Senate Majority Floor Leader Tom Dempsey represents part of St. Charles County in the Missouri Senate. He was elected to the Senate after winning a special election in 2007 and re-elected in 2008. Senator Dempsey currently serves as Majority Floor Leader of the Missouri Senate, chairs the Senate Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee; is Vice-Chair of the Senate Administration Committee and the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee; plus serves on the Joint Committees on MO Health Net and Missouri's Promise.

He previously served seven years in the Missouri House of Representatives (2001-2007) where he served as chairman of the Job Creation and Economic Development Committee before serving as Majority Floor Leader for three years.

Throughout his public service in both the Senate and House, Sen. Dempsey has made a positive impact in the areas of education and economic development, among others, and has earned a reputation as a skilled, effective and well-respected legislator.

Senator Dempsey has received numerous legislative honors and awards, including the RCGA Lewis & Clark Statesman Award; the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Enterprise Award; and is a multi-time recipient of the St. Louis Business Journal Legislative Award.

In addition to his legislative duties, Sen. Dempsey is vice president of First National Bank of St. Louis. His family has been in the restaurant business in St. Charles County for more than 50 years.

Born in St. Charles, Sen. Dempsey is a graduate of DeSmet Jesuit High School and received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Rockhurst University. He is a member of the St. Charles and St. Peters chambers of commerce, St. Charles Rotary Club and St. Cletus Catholic Church.

Senator Dempsey resides in St. Charles with wife, Molly, and their children, Meaghan, Abby and Jack.
