Senate Committee Substitute

SCS/SJR 45 – This Senate Joint Resolution modifies the State Board of Education. Currently, the State Board only oversees the public schools in the state. This resolution would grant it supervision of instruction of the entire public education system. The board membership will consist of four at-large members and an additional number of members equal to the number of congressional districts. There will be one member appointed from each district. No more than seven members may be from the same political party, instead of the current four. In addition, of the four at-large members, at least one member must have a background in higher education, one must have a background in elementary and secondary education, one must have a background in early childhood education, and at least one member must have a background in economic development.
