Missouri State Senate
Biography for Senator Gibbons

Senate President Pro Tem Michael R. Gibbons is dedicated to protecting Missouri families and children in their homes and neighborhoods. He is a life-long resident of Kirkwood where he began his public service in 1986 when he was elected to the Kirkwood City Council. He then served eight years as a state representative, and now is in his second term in the Senate. He has been entrusted with many leadership positions culminating with his colleagues electing him to serve as the leader of the Missouri Senate in 2005 and again in 2007.

Mike is a proven leader with a big heart who finds common sense answers to complex problems. He has been a champion for protecting our children, and a defender of life. He protected our children with some of the toughest laws in the nation so we can convict sexual predators, put them in jail, lock the door and throw away the key. He protected our most vulnerable, the developmentally disabled and elderly who live in institutions, by mandating reports of abuse, making them public, and strengthening penalties. His leadership resulted with tough laws that cut nearly in half the production of methamphetamine in Missouri. He's worked to protect Missouri consumers from identity theft and he has protected victims of sexual and domestic violence so they can feel secure to come forward and seek justice.

Sen. Gibbons practices law at Stinson, Morrison, Hecker LLP in St. Louis. Before, he practiced law for 20 years alongside his father, Michael Gibbons, in Kirkwood helping the people of that community.

He resides with his wife, Liz. Their daughter, Meredith, is a freshman at Westminster where she plays volleyball. Their son Danny graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2005 and now works in Jefferson City.
