SB 1189 – This act modifies the law relating to the virtual public school. It is the intent of the General Assembly that the virtual public school serve as a curriculum enhancement for all students seeking to earn a high school diploma or equivalent, by offering courses otherwise unavailable to them. A student cannot enroll in a course through the virtual public school if the student's school offers the same course or an equivalent course. This act requires the virtual public school to notify a student's school district of residence within five business days of certain information about students attending the virtual public school and also when a student ends enrollment. A school district may identify credits that a student earned through the virtual public school on the student's diploma, transcript, or in the student's records. In addition, a school district may exclude credits earned through the virtual public school when calculating in-district academic awards.
