HB 1875 - This act allows the State Treasurer to withhold moneys due to political subdivisions, municipalities, and public bodies and transfer the moneys to the State Auditor to pay for the cost of audits performed on such entities.

This act is similar to SB 740 (2000).

SCA 1 - THIS AMENDMENT PERMITS THE CITY CLERK OR SIMILAR DESIGNEES OF A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION TO REVIEW THE PETITION SUBMITTED TO THE STATE AUDITOR FOR THE PURPOSES OF CONDUCTING AN AUDIT. THE CITY CLERK MAY REVIEW THE PETITION TO ENSURE THAT THE PERSONS SIGNING THE PETITION ARE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE POLITICAL SUBDIVISION. THE CITY CLERK MUST PROVIDE THE INFORMATION RELATING TO THE VALIDITY OF THE SIGNATURES TO THE STATE AUDITOR WITHIN TEN DAYS OF RECEIPT OF THE PETITION. THE AMENDMENT ALSO REQUIRES ANY CIRCULATOR REQUESTING AN AUDIT TO PROVIDE THE REASONS FOR THE AUDIT TO THE STATE AUDITOR.
