Current Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

HCS/HB 1434 - This act establishes an "Amusement Ride Safety Board" composed of nine members, including the State Fire Marshal and eight members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Members would serve staggered five year terms, and no more than four members may be of the same political party.

The Board's duties would include consulting with engineering authorities and organizations on amusement ride safety, developing a safety code for amusement rights, and making recommendations to the State Fire Marshal concerning safety issues related to amusement rides.

The act requires that amusement rides be inspected at least annually, that operators of such rides carry insurance or post a bond against accidents, and that operating permits be issued to certify that amusement rides have been inspected and meet Board standards.

The act also requires reporting of serious amusement ride accidents to the State Fire Marshal, and makes other technical changes to existing law.
