Current Bill Summary

SB 965 - This act creates a "County Technology Fund". For all counties which become counties of the first classification after September of 2000, one percent of all ad valorem taxes allocable to the county and each taxing authority in the county, will be deducted from taxes collected on the first five hundred million dollars of assessed valuation. The one-percent fee will be assigned among the political subdivisions.

From January 1, 2001, to December 31, 2006, there will be a one-half percent deduction from the collection of all ad valorem taxes allocable to each taxing authority within the county or city. One-half of the amounts collected will be deposited in the County Technology Fund. The money in the fund will be expended solely for computer hardware and software. The other half will be transferred to the County Assessment Fund.

In 2006, a meeting will be called by each county commission and a representation of each political subdivision levying property taxes in that county for the purpose of voting on retention of the one-percent fee.
