Current Bill Summary

SB 904 - This act creates a separate elected office of Recorder of Deeds in third class counties. Each county will elect a Recorder of Deeds in November of 2002, and install such clerk on the first day of January of 2003.

The act also establishes a $10 fee charged by the Recorder of Deeds to be distributed in the following manner:

1. Two dollars to the State of Missouri for the preservation of historical records; 2. Four dollars to County General Revenue; 3. Two dollars to the County Employees Retirement Fund; and, 4. Two dollars to the Statutory County Recorders' Fund.

The "Statutory County Recorders' Fund" is established in the State Treasury to subsidize costs of the County Recorders' offices in third class counties where the county collects less than $65,000 annually in Recorders' fees.
