Current Bill Summary

SB 895 - Under current law, no person may operate a vehicle with vision-reducing material applied to a windshield, sidewing, or window located to the left and right of the driver which reduces visibility from within or without the motor vehicle. Use of vision-reducing material with 35% light transmission is permitted only with a physician's prescription.

This act allows any person to use vision-reducing material with a light transmission of 35% or less, plus or minus 3%, and a luminous reflectance of 35% or more, plus or minus 3%.

The Department of Public Safety may issue a permit to any person to operate a motor vehicle with less light transmission and more luminous reflectance when a physician indicates a person has a physical disorder. The permit will alter the tinting limits pursuant to the physician's prescription.

This act is similar to HB 1228 (2000).
