SB 776 - This act requires the filing of affidavits in civil suits against certain professionals.

The plaintiff must file an affidavit from a similarly licensed professional before the suit can proceed. Similar provisions are in place for health care providers (Section 538.225, RSMo).

If a claim is filed without an affidavit, the court may dismiss such claim without prejudice. The term "licensed professional" includes architects, engineers, or surveyors.

The act does not affect actions filed in small claims court.

This act is similar to SB 89 from 1999.
