Current Bill Summary

SB 688 - This act allows a waiver of bidding procedures for mental health services in certain situations. Currently, Section 630.405, RSMo, allows the Department of Mental Health to purchase services for mental patients from any vendor in this state. Such services include prevention, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and transportation, among others. The Commissioner of Administration is currently allowed to establish purchase procedures consistent with normal state purchasing procedures. This act allows the Commissioner to develop rules that would allow a waiver of state bidding procedures for the purchase of these services if direct purchase by the Department is the best option.

This bill is substantially similar to SB 514 (1999).
