Current Bill Summary

SB 681 - This act requires the Division of Family Services (DFS) to check the attendance records of children whose families are receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). If a child does not attend school, the Director of DFS shall send written notification to the parents. If a child fails a second attendance check, TANF benefits to the family may be suspended for one month. If a child fails a third check, benefits may be suspended for two months. If, after a fourth check, a child is still not attending school, benefits may be suspended until the following school year.
