Current Bill Summary

SCS/SBs 538 & 565 - Under this act, all restrictions imposed by law on the disclosure of information by the Department of Revenue shall also apply to persons or entities contracting with the director to provide electronic filing, issuance or renewal services.

Under this act, personal information in motor vehicle and driver's license records shall be presumed to be closed instead of open to the public. Current law requires individuals to request their information be private. This act would require the express consent of the individual for the information to be public.

This act also eliminates the bulk disclosure of motor vehicle and driver's license records by the Department of Revenue.

This act is similar to SB 330 (1999), SB 132 (1999) and Truly Agreed To SS/HS/HCS/HB 1797 (2000).
