Joint Effort to Revitalize the City's Historic Northeast

I am proud to share the exciting news regarding a revitalization effort in Kansas City's Historic Northeast district. The redevelopment initiative, also known as Invest Northeast, is designed to promote economic growth and property beautification. The project recently kicked off with the demolition of a dangerous building in the area that was known for drug use, prostitution and gang-related activity.

Part of this area is located in the 9th Senatorial District and I'm thrilled community leaders and citizens see the potential in advancing improvements for these neighborhoods and businesses that lie within this area. The project is coordinated by the grassroots coalition Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT), with support from the City and local stakeholders.

Invest Northeast will offer the following programs to those who qualify:

  • Scholarships for business-related classes through the University of Missouri-Kansas City's Innovation Center.
  • Tax relief for home and business owners investing in their property.
  • Loans for business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to support their businesses.
  • Small home repairs, including new roofing, windows or exterior paint.
The initiative also includes targeted dangerous building demolitions, a new community logo and website, and way-finding signage. Visit www.knekc.com for more information about this wonderful new initiative for our community.
