Current Bill Summary

SJR 30 - This constitutional amendment, if approved by the voters, revises the composition and duties of the Missouri Citizens' Commission on the Compensation for Elected Officials. The reconstituted Commission would be composed of nine members. The Commission would be appointed in 2000 and every five years thereafter. It is charged with recommending compensation for statewide elected officials, members of the General Assembly and Judges selected under the Nonpartisan Court Plan.

The Commission's recommendations shall be submitted to the General Assembly and the General Assembly may modify the recommendation, but may not increase the compensation for any office above that recommended by the Commission. All actions of the Commission and the General Assembly are subject to appropriations.

This bill is similar to SJR 8 (1997).
