Current Bill Summary

SB 1489 - This act provides that beginning on January 1, 2030, every handgun sold in Missouri shall have smart gun technology which shall limit who may operate the handgun by means of fingerprint, facial recognition, or other biometric factors.

Additionally, this act adds to the offense of unlawful possession of a firearm that a person shall be guilty if he or she is in possession of a handgun in which the smart gun technology does not allow the person to operate the firearm. This provision shall become effective on January 1, 2031.
