Senate Leaders Speak Out on the Tragedy in Charleston, S.C.

JEFFERSON CITY — “We are saddened to hear about the death of a fellow colleague from South Carolina and the eight other victims. This senseless, yet targeted, killing is another example of the social unrest we have seen in recent months across the country. The conversation will continue as the community in Charleston moves to pick up the pieces and begins to rebuild.

Today, our thoughts and prayers are with pastor and state Sen. Clementa Pinckney, his family and the families of the other eight victims who were murdered in cold blood. Now that the suspect has been captured by law enforcement, we invite everyone to embrace peace and move towards healing in a spirit of unity in the coming days.”
