2015 Legislative Session Begins

Wednesday, January 7th marked the beginning of another legislative session as lawmakers returned to the State Capitol to begin the First Regular Session of the 98th General Assembly. Several new lawmakers and returning Senators, including myself, took the oath of office in the Senate chamber. My colleagues and I were sworn in by Chief Justice Mary Russell of the Missouri Supreme Court as many family members, visitors and guests looked on. It was a memorable day for me, my family, and friends.

Thank you to the voters of the 28th Senatorial District for allowing me to serve another term as their State Senator. As always, I will continue to represent the constituents of my district and the people of Missouri to the best of my ability.

There are several priorities the Senate aims to tackle this legislative session including: keeping taxes low; promoting public safety; economic development; education; and presenting a budget Missouri tax payers can afford.

Investing in farming and agriculture are also top priorities for the Senate and my office.  Agriculture is the back bone of this state and roughly two-thirds of Missouri land is used for farming purposes. Leaders in the General Assembly would like to revisit legislation passed by lawmakers last year, but vetoed by the governor and failed to reach the necessary votes for an override. I have already sponsored several bills to help our agriculture industry in the state, and add protections for our livestock producers.

As the 2015 legislative session continues, I want you to know that my office and staff are always here to assist you. If you would like to read about my bills and committee assignments, visit www.senate.mo.gov/parson.  This year, as a new weekly feature on my Facebook page, will be a narrative of a Missouri company and the product they manufacture.
